Paul Gauguin
Paul Gauguin (1848 - 1903) is best known for his paintings with South Seas motifs. He admired human honesty and purity and wanted to find these qualities in people who were still untouched by Western civilization. This search led him to Tahiti, where he spent most of his life and created many of his famous paintings. Gauguin's post-impressionist work became a trailblazer for Expressionism. He played an important role in the development of European painting.
