Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a leading figure in the Art Nouveau movement in the late 19th century. Born in 1868, he grew up with 10 siblings in Glasgow, Scotland. Known as 'The Four', Mackintosh, together with his wife Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh, her sister Frances MacDonald McNair and James Herbert McNair, created a unique Scottish interpretation of Art Nouveau, known as the Glasgow Style. The architect and interior designer, designer, graphic artist and painter Mackintosh is considered an influential and important forerunner and protagonist of Modern Art.
